"Wow!! Phenomenal. I have no idea where they found all of the nicest, coolest, smartest people to work here from the front desk through the recovery team.Dr. Bernthal is an absolute Angel, highly recommended from a national support group as both an excellent surgeon leading in the field but also as a wonderful human. Dr. Wessel went above and beyond helping to coordinate care and consider all aspects of the surgery. We met with SEVERAL doctors in person/digitally and felt most comfortable with this team.Dr. Bernthal’s MA Kerry was very patient and helpful in making everything happen. His fellow, Dr. Kendall is also very caring, patient and calming while being very thorough and patient. Dr. Chia was a very kind anesthesiologist who spent lots of time talking through post op directions. Our nurses Tim and Ingrid were lively, fun, and super attentive. Nicole up front was a style icon but also incredibly pleasant and helpful at 5AM.The building doesn’t even feel like a hospital with the rich wood decor and warm tones. For something that is essentially terrible, THANK YOU UCLA SM for making it as Enjoyable as possible.Helpful tips as of 7/22.-Visitors need proof of Full vaccination or Covid test.-Covid test needs to be labeled Midturbinate or nasopharyngeal (not anterior nasal like lots of clinics do).-There are plugins and lockers in surgery waiting room.-Valet parking ($14) is cheaper than the parking lot across the street ($24). Street parking is free until 9AM."

"Professionalism and Courtesy! My wife had a pretty extensive surgery, and from start to finish, we were very happy with our choice on coming from Vegas to get this surgery done. I have to especially thank Dr. Shamie, Dr. Ulloa and their surgery team for making sure all went well. Then the 3 North nurses and staff were very attentive to all our needs, as well as the housekeeping staff making sure that all was clean and sanitized. I can't say enough about UCLA. The Davis family thanks you very much."

"I don't recommend this facility to pediatric patients who need extensive work up. I left having more questions about my son's condition than when I got admitted and my son had burn marks on his head from EEG machine. It's a teaching hospital, meaning it is ran by students who are making diagnoses and the doctors supervising them signing off their homework. I urge you to take your children somewhere where they will get proper diagnoses. The doctors were nice but neurology saw my son for 5 minutes to rule out cp diagnoses. 5 minutes? i find it irresponsible to make such conclusions without thorough evaluation. I wasn't given any results in writing, everything was verbal and recommend to go see other specialists. they couldn't complete tests because beds weren't available at the other location.the icing on the cake, no beds or comfortable couch for parents staying with their kids. you get a chair. furthermore, they don't tell you that you get one guest tray a day and it must be entered by nurses. you have to "purchase" guest trays to be able to eat there or go down to cafeteria. but you aren't informed of this on your first day there, you find out as you go.they expect you to leave your infant child to go purchase food. while the child monitoring is malfunctioning and anyone can enter your child's room with very little security. I know prisoners get treated better."

"My wife goes here for her pregnancy, labor, and delivery stuff. They do a very good job.Details:My wife has given birth here twice. The nurses are caring and very responsive when paged. Then checked your vitals and your baby's vitals semi-frequently, which is kind of annoying but it's because they want to make sure things are going well (and likely for liability reasons, I expect). The prices the hospital and doctor charges to insurance are astronomical, but likely par for the course given our broken healthcare system. I would recommend this place. Capable and caring staff and nice facilities."

"I am impressed with the care of the nurses and doctors. Grateful for what you all they do, but definitely need to train those who sit at the reception with manners and people interaction. These are the people that represent your establishment. My chief complaint here is that the front reception desk employees across the board are very rude. When checking in the first day, I was demanded my photo id and COVID vaccine card which is completely understandable. However, the tone of your employees were dictatorial even intolerant with me. The following two days, the attitudes did not improve. They are aggressive, rude and derogatory."

"I am very new to the LA area, I was SO impressed with the overall care & concern the drs and my nurse had, I was treated with nothing but kindness and you can tell the drs really care about their patients well being here ❤️. I am 17 weeks pregnant currently, and came in with horribly sharp pelvic, lower back & lower abdomen pain. I was super uncomfortable and very parannoyed at first from a previous experience I had at Cedar sinai marina del rey. I won’t get into that, but it gave me a very bad taste in my mouth regarding care in LA as I’ve lived in SanDiego for the last few years. UCLA proved to me that there absolutely are nurses and drs at ERs that care about your well fair here. They went above and beyond with testing, to figure out the issue I was having. I am so greatful because I don’t know of another place that would have put that much time and effort trying to assess my problem ❤️. I probably wouldn’t know I only had swollen lymp nodes had I gone anywhere else. Which can mimic appendicitis. Gregory W. Hendet and Reza Hessabi are amazing Drs. All of the nurses were so kind as well. Recommended 10 out of 10. Thank you to everyone who made me feel cared for and got down to the bottom of what was going on with me. I’ve been dealing with not knowing what was happening with me for it least a week maybe longer. 10 out of 10 highly recommended ! It may be a long wait but it was without a doubt worth the wait !"

"Wonderful hospital the staff are very nice and caring and wonderful food but some of the rooms don’t have privacy curtains. I would recommend them to have the disposable privacy curtains that they can change. Because we need privacy over all this is a wonderful hospital and have not had any issues so far highly recommended thank you 4th floor staff :)"

"My experience in the ER wasn't that great but after getting into my room this staff is great. I broke my femur and I was real rude angry and in alot of pain and not one time did they lose their professionalism and continued to give optimal care. They dealt with me and my pain and fixed my leg with surgery. There are mostly young out of school kids training here but it's ok they are doing well, give em a chance! They receive a 5 star rating for their amazing professional staff."

"Not a very good experience. My dad has dementia and is here for back surgery. We have had a hard time getting info about his condition and now they say they can't find a rehab place close to our home. My elderly mom can't drive to Santa Monica daily (or at all). We live 50 miles away. On top of it, parking is always a struggle, the meter spots are always full, valet is usually unavailable, and if you stay more than 30 minutes, the garage costs $24. Maybe this is a hospital that caters to the wealthy only. Really disappointed in the patient and family care here."

"It is hard to replicate what has been created here: a hospital where patients are immediately surrounded by a swarm of specialists, over-attentive nurses, the hums and beeps of high tech medical gadgetry, and an impressive view of a clean city by the water's edge. My chief complaint here? That the gourmet burger I ordered was a tad bit too dry. This place is impressive because it has money, that is undeniable. But it rises beyond that -into the realm of the exceptional - because of its culture. The care is genuine."

"Beware This institution is unethical. I Went there for a prescription change and left with hundreds of dollars in bills. After telling my doctor I had a slight discomfort in my belly button for weeks, without an actual assessment, the doctor proceeded to ask me to immediately go to the emergency room, which i insisted I did not feel it was necessary. Then he proceeded to tell me that as mydoctor he was obliged to informed me that people did from this if it is an appendicitis.I told him it does not fit the signal of appendicitis diagnosis but I trusted his advice . He asked I wait to see if they can put me on for a radiology test. I asked that if UCLA COULD confirm my insurance would pay for it, I was ok with going to radiology.I trusted the advice and then started to receive hundreds of dollars of medical bills, almost 750 dollars that became my responsibility.I submitted an ethical claim and third billing department just came back with the response that my insurance did pay for it and the remaining was my obligation, completely ignoring what I said.I’ll never go there, again! Avoid yourself getting in medical debt because of greed and unethical practices!!!"

"I love coming to get treatment at UCLA Santa Monica or at the Reagan location. UCL Santa Monica is more laid back compared to reagan. I have excellent nurses as well which is very important because I always come here to get hospitalized for a rare genetic disorder that I have. Here I'm listening to, my input matters, and it shapes my treatment plan here. I'm also able to get alternative forms of medicine here such as reiki, Urban Zen, acupuncture from East-West medicine, and spiritual care which allows me to speak to a chaplain. This is all wonderful me for me because I need as much psychological support as possible especially whenever on hospitalized because my disease is very much triggered by emotional state. This is my second time being hospitalized this location and it's been great. The food is really good. The nurses as well as a Care partners take excellent care of me so I have two nurses that take care of me. And a team of different doctors that I meet with which is about 4 that take care of me as well. I really love this location and plan on coming here in the future whenever I have a tax for my genetic disorder. So personally I highly recommend it"

"The doctors and office support staff are amazing and the hospital seems as clean as it can be, but that is where my positive experience stops. I had surgery in July at UCLA Santa Monica and immediately upon receipt of the bill I reached out to a charity organization thru my employer that was going to pay the approx. $2800 bill for me. The charity organization needed a completed W-9 for for the physicians related to the bill before they can submit payment. That has started an over 2 month long quest to get that form. I have called billing MANY time and they have confirmed there are notes on my file for where the W9 form can be sent when completed. Both the charity organization and I have emailed / faxed the H.I.T department numerous times. I also have called billing, requested a call back from billing supervisor (never got it), never received email or call backs from H.I.T department, and called Patient Experience and left voicemails. I got one call back voicemail from them saying to contact billing but haven’t received any call back from them upon my 2nd voicemail, and I got so desperate I even called the operator asking for the hospital administration. They forwarded me to a voicemail and I left a voicemail there with no call back. What am I supposed to do here? This has been going on since July! I am financially being hurt by this because the charity will not reimburse me for other medical bills I already paid for until all claims can be submitted at once. Not that this will do anything, but if this doesn’t get fixed I’m going to start contacting high ups at UCLA such as the Chancellors office."

"Doctors here are great. Nurses are hit and miss. Some are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind while some may use insensitive wording to convey a message to the point my wife was crying for a while. But beyond all, the facility is old and everything is kinda rusty. Bathrooms have super old tiles and look kinda gross and we had a lot of trouble with the transportation. Everytime they want to move you to another room or you're about to be released, consider waiting 2 hours for facility to come pick you up. I ended up taking out luggage up and down to the car myself.Overall, not what you expect for one of the best hospitals in the area."

"The wait was a little long, but the ER was full. The doctor spoke me approximately 5 minutes. However, the highlight was that the nurse George, who was not even assigned to me, was so caring, attentive and efficient. I can’t imagine how great he is to his patients which he’s actually assigned to! Deserves a promotion for sure."

"I ended up here in the Emergency Room from a scooter accident in which my face hit the asphalt and I split my chin open. The medical professionals here were amazing! Wonderful bedside manner, patient and attentive and obviously the top of their game in the medical profession. They had me stitched up and out the door in less than two hours! And added in a cat scan just to make sure there was no head trauma! Then the security guards were very pleasant and made me feel safe while I waited for my ride outside. Wonderful hospital!"

"I was shocked! The emergency room was empty, EMPTY! Even though there were incredibly few people there, it went relatively slow but compared to other medical centers it went very quickly. They almost took us to do the wrong test for a completely different ailment and as it turns out they grabbed the "wrong patient" SCARY! they had my friend on a bed in the hallway and I thought that was ridiculous. She was in so much pain and I'm sure the passing people didn't help much."

"After another visit to this emergency room I must post a comment here; I know UCLA cares about feedback and would like to share this experience that almost made me cry.We showed up at the emergency room with a very dehydrated, very scared girl. We know that the first thing she will face will be a needle and from there on whatever the doctors think is necessary. She was very scared, was poked and checked and we know that gave her a lot of anxiety; the doctors ordered a CT scan and they moved us to radiology, there we met this guy Michael J. White, they moved the gurney in and I noticed that instead of explaining me (which I already knew) he focused on our girl, the way he made sure she saw his face when he spoke and how he explained her what he was about to do gave me chills, he spoke with such tenderness letting her know that he was there to help her; he told her that if she needed to throw up she could do it and told her he did not care bout her messing up his table, that she was first; he took his time explaining her what she could expect to feel with the contrast that was going to be injected and I saw my girl visibly relax for the first time since we arrived to the emergency department, he never stopped talking and reassuring her giving her confidence....That definitely was priceless.... God bless you Michael J. White you are amazing :)"

"Service was good, the nurses were very caring. The nurse Carmencita grove was lovely. She kept checking on me and went above and beyond what the expected service was. The night doctor Daniel Kahn was the most caring and concerned doctor I had there out of all the doctors that checked on me during my stay. The nurse Kelli gramlich was also very good and helpful with everything."

"Dr. Bowen made my son very comfortable during and after surgery. Every staff member in the surgical department was friendly and very attentive. Thank you to Dr. Bowen and the surgical staff for an excellent job. Only issue I can say I had was admissions clerk Jose Victor Alvarez was insulting by a gesture made when I answered yes that I do work, I guess he figured because I had tattoos I didnt have a job."

"My husband was airlifted from Las Vegas to this hospital. The ICU nurses were great but my husband was bumped from a needed procedure two days in a row. He was not allowed to eat or drink for two days and the lack of communication from his doctor made for a poor experience. Dr. Smith, the ICU doctor basically said that my husband was an add on and other people coming in from out of town that had scheduled procedures took precedence. Dr. Oh, my husbands pulmonologist never communicated the change in schedule and the ICU nurses kept checking on the OR status or we never would have been told anything. We would never return to this hospital."

"I was ran over by a police car while sleeping on Santa Monica beach after a neutral milk hotel show I had hitchhiked to see from Oregon. Without a cell phone I screamed for help, then passed out. Next thing I know I am waking up inside a hospital still screaming with a new scar but alive. I am probably a slightly difficult patient but UCLA gave me the best care in the world and I thank them for that."

"Dr Lisa Dabby is a sweetheart. I've been here a couple times for an ankle fracture that I sustained and was treated well. on my second visit, i was struggling to go up on a ramp to enter the emergency room on my wheelchair. I saw a nurse outside smoking a cigarette and asked her if she could please help me and she declined. pretty sad. i always believed that nursing was compassion. minus one star for this staff member"

"After sitting in the hallway being "taken care of" by 4 different nurses, I was told to "take a picture of the x ray to show your orthopedic specialist" of my broken foot. I was laughed at and told "that was the craziest thing they've ever heard and a picture from my phone was not an acceptable x ray" when I called my specialist. Make the trip back to ucla Santa Monica (with a broken foot) to get the records before I trek back to New York, and I am told I can get a copy by one nurse, the next nurse tells me it's illegal to release me a copy of my own records "for a number of reasons he won't get into". 4 days later no medical records, no help from the hospital, and no clear way in sight of getting them. I've never had such a terrible experience. What is the point of paying for an x ray if they refuse to give you a copy?????? That place is run by baffled idiots who all have something different To say from reception, to nurses, to the doctor. Do not go to this facility if you'd like to receive streamlined treatment for your injury. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE."

"I had outpatient surgery last week. I prepped as much as I could and read what to expect. Still, this was a huge step for me as I avoided going to a doctor for a whole year while constantly sick because being sick gets you looked down upon by medical practitioners. Damn opiate addiction epidemic! The staff was nice even when I did things wrong. I didn't realize I would be intubated during surgery until the anesthesiologist mentioned it. Probably a good thing as I would have just worried more. The whole staff in pre op, surgery and recovery were great."

"We've now had 2 children born there and both experiences were far beyond our expectations. The staff is incredibly caring and nurturing. They will keep coming in to check mom and baby at all hours of the day and night, which is exactly what you need as a new baby and mom. They have an army of lactation specialists round the clock. Even the foodservice and housekeeping people were always super helpful and cheerful. Sometimes we couldn't even tell people's rank/title because it didn't seem to matter - no matter who we asked or what we asked for, they helped us or got the right person to help us, and usually right away. We delivered both of our kids by c-section (the 2nd was a scheduled c-section - which by the way is so far less stressful than arriving in labor or getting induced). Both surgeries were very fast, professional, and successful. They had an amazing delivery team who worked very well together like a small symphony, and even played cool upbeat music in the OR. We cant thank you enough UCLA for your fine care and critical role in bringing our children into the world. We would recommend them to anyone having a child considering UCLA as their birth place."

"Had a great Dr G. in ER who probably saved my life. I was pretty far gone and my son was told to plan my funeral. The nurse assigned to me however was a little crazy, talked very load, even made verbal threats against other staff, stayed in with another patient of her race and completely ignored care of others assigned to her,,,,I mean did not come into my area at all. There was no mamagement of that area.I lay in ER all day without any attention, and about 8 PM after shift change was sent to a floor , when standard is usually ICU for what I had.Nursing staff was mixed in proffessionalism. Most memorable was RN Annabelle who dropped all care to run out of the room to take personal cell phone calls and ignore patients. Left everything to nurses aid, Dennis, who seemed to truly care about the patientsOthers were good but just as many were not so good.Floor Doc was foreign, and did not follow usual protocals, wrote that I could go back to work in a week on discharge. My private Dr kept me out for 6 weeks. Said discharge papers were worst he had ever seen. Not a place I would trust my life to again. UCLA is not what it used to be. More worried about making much money and the level of patient care is not what it should be.Surveys they often send out supposedly to raye your Doctor are weighted to whether the Dr referred you to other Doctors at UCLA."

"Fortunately I took to Yelp to find the best place to fix my mess of an ankle, which, in combination with my Anthem BOBS urgent care search, turned out to be a great decision. The appointment/check-in is a cinch and the lobby is decorated beautifully, with a spacious and well-lit waiting area. This is how all healthcare places should look like. The last thing patients need is a crowded stuffy waiting room to prolong their suffering. The nurses were super friendly and the entire place is spotless. Got out of here in 40 minutes with a $40 copay. Worth every cent.Distinguishing factor: I never knew urgent care places can adopt a Marina-chi decor, and this place is it."

"I'm planning to deliver my baby at this hospital but am seriously reconsidering my choice due to what seems to have been food poisoning at their facility.I came in for a standard ultrasound around 5pm. At 6:15 I was told it was my time to start drinking water (had to be done 30 min prior to ultrasound) so I grabbed one of the lovely turkey sandwiches provided by UCLASM and downed the required 4 glasses of water. At 7:30 I sent my husband to find out what was taking so long - I was starting to get cramps and pain in my side, which I attributed to my full/stressed bladder. He returned saying it would be another 15 minutes. I started feeling better but then 5 minutes later I experienced another episode of severe pain in my abdominal area and started getting dizzy, feeling like I was going to vomit.Well, apparently I did vomit. I passed out after as well so I don't remember it all. I woke up on the floor with the doctor and nurse standing above me and my husband holding my head. The Dr told me I could come back after getting checked out by ER, where I was immediately rushed to. They checked me in and then told me it would be 3 hours until I could be seen. My pants and shoes were covered in vomit and the side of my face was throbbing from my head hitting the floor during the fall. I refused their services as I could not sit there like that for hours as I was already shivering from the cold waiting room. They told me I'd probably still be charged for seeing the ER since I was checked in. What a crock. The only thing I can figure out is that it was food poisoning. I felt fine all day and also as soon as I woke up after vomiting. I had lunch that day and then didn't have anything until the turkey sandwich. I vomited a little over an hour later and from then on was perfectly fine. The only other time I got food poisoning years ago I also threw up within an hour or two time frame. My husband was very angry and told them to check their sandwiches because that was what I ate. The Dr defended the hospital's sandwiches and I don't blame him given that I work in the food industry and it's not uncommon for people to claim food poisoning even though they arrived obviously feeling sick. In this case, I wasn't.The reality is that nothing is ever 100% guaranteed and we just do the best we can, which really only starts the moment we receive the food. I'm not blaming UCLASM for bad handling of the food because it does happen - hopefully just once in a blue moon. I'm actually worried that they didn't throw out the sandwiches after what we told them and also unhappy that they'd even THINK of charging me for an ER visit that I only needed because of food from their facility. If they had just taken care of me as an apology for what their food caused I'd have felt much better about the facility. As it is, I haven't received the bill yet so I will update this to higher stars if they do not charge me for getting checked in."

"So far not so good.. it's been 10 hours and I'm still in the ER. Congestive heart failure with chest pain and was seen within 2t min.s of getting idea the door of the ER which with a history of heart attacks really isn't that great with a hospital with less than 240 beds in the hospital. No test so far.. only blood drawn.. I was told I had a room ready for me but 5 hours later still no place to sleep except the back corner number 9 stall..of the ER"

"I recently had back surgery at your hospital and then spent the next 4 days recuperating there. My surgery was very successful and the hospital staff were excellent. The nurses and care partners were very attentive and responsive to my needs. My requests for assistance were responded to quickly and professionally. I have not been in the hospital previously but have assisted my mother during several hospital stays and found the level of care at UCLA Santa Monica to far exceed anything we have experienced before. Thank you for making my stay as easy as possible. Special thanks to my Saturday nurse who had very helpful information about getting my prescriptions for pain medication filled timely and without problems."

"It's hard to say "I loved it" when I was sick with Pneumonia in here for 3 days. But the staff were great. It's a teaching hospital, when you're sick, they look after you - but if you can walk around be prepared to be encumbered by groups of students in training. Not a problem."
